How to Give a VA Access to Your Facebook Page Without Sharing Your Password
Invite your VA with task access in Meta Business Suite, pick only the permissions the job needs, and remove access the day the work ends. No login sharing.
In this article
To give a VA access to your Facebook Page, invite them in Meta Business Suite (Settings > Pages > select your Page > Assign people) with task access, never by sharing your login. Only someone who already has Facebook access with full control can send that invite, so check your own level first.
The whole thing takes about 5 minutes. The part most owners rush is choosing the permissions, and that's where the real risk sits.
Why you should never share your Facebook password with a VA
Sharing your password gives a VA your personal profile, not just the Page. That's the first problem. The other three are practical.
- Lockouts. A login from a new device or country triggers a security check, and the code goes to your phone, not theirs.
- No audit trail. Everything your VA does looks like you did it.
- No clean revoke. To cut off one person you have to change the password and kick out everyone else who uses it.
- Spillover. Your personal profile, messages and other Pages sit behind the same login.
We've watched page owners lose days to a security lock because a helper logged in from another country. Delegated access exists so this never happens.
Facebook Page roles explained: full control vs task access
A Facebook Page has two access types: Facebook access with full control, and task access limited to areas you choose. Meta's Business Help Center describes both. Menu labels change over time, so trust your own screen if it differs from what's written here.
Facebook access with full control
Facebook access with full control means managing everything on the Page, including giving, editing and removing other people's access. These are the "people with Facebook access" in your Page's access list. It's the owner-level tier, and it's what the old "admin" role became.
Only this tier can assign access to others. That's why a VA with it can remove you.
Task access and its permission areas
Task access lets a person do specific jobs without touching the Page's access list. You tick the areas:
- Content: create, schedule and manage posts and Reels
- Messages: read and reply to the inbox
- Community activity: moderate comments and reply to followers
- Ads: create and manage ads
- Insights: view Page insights and performance data
Task access cannot add or remove people, and it can't promote itself. That one limit is the whole reason to use it.
Which access does your VA actually need?
Most VAs need task access with one or two areas, not full control. Match the access to the job:
| VA job | Task access areas | Leave off |
|---|---|---|
| Posting and scheduling Facebook Reels | Content | Messages, Ads |
| Replying to comments | Community activity | Ads, Content |
| Answering the inbox | Messages | Ads, Insights |
| Reporting on performance | Insights | Everything else |
| Running boosted Reels | Content + Ads | Messages |
A VA who only schedules Reels needs Content, nothing more. Add Insights if you want them to tell you which Reels held retention and watch time. Skip Ads unless they truly manage a budget.
How to give a VA access in Meta Business Suite (step by step)
You need to be someone with Facebook access with full control, and your VA needs their own Facebook account. Ask them to turn on two-factor authentication first. If the Page sits in a Meta Business portfolio, the same people list appears there.
On desktop
- Open Meta Business Suite on a computer and click Settings.
- Under Profiles (or Pages, depending on your layout), click Pages and select your Page.
- Click Assign people (or Add people).
- Enter your VA's name or the email tied to their Facebook account.
- Choose Task access, then switch on only the areas from the table above.
- Confirm. Meta may ask you to re-enter your password as a security check.
Your VA must accept the invitation before anything works.
From the Facebook app or Page settings
On mobile, switch into your Page, then open the menu and go to Settings & privacy > Settings > Page setup > Page access. Tap to add a new person under task access and choose their areas. Desktop is easier for this, and the mobile menus move around between app versions.
The Page's own route works on desktop too: Page setup > Page access, then add someone under "People with task access."
How to remove or change a VA's access
You remove or change access on the same screen you used to grant it. Open Meta Business Suite > Settings > Pages > your Page > the person's entry, then edit their areas or remove them.
Only someone with full control can do this. Do it the day the work ends, not "when I remember."
Need to upgrade? Edit the person and switch from task access to Facebook access with full control. Do that only when someone truly needs to manage other people's access, and downgrade them afterwards. A temporary job shouldn't become a permanent privilege.
The biggest mistake: giving full control when task access is enough
The most common mistake is granting full control because it's one click and nothing seems to break. A VA with full control can add or remove people, change roles and edit Page settings, including removing you.
Most owners never plan for the bad day, but one mistaken click, a compromised VA account or a falling-out is enough. Task access limits the damage to the areas you ticked. Also remember that a VA's posts count toward your Page's standing, so a careless upload is still your problem.
Before handoff:
- Confirm your VA has their own account with two-factor authentication on
- Grant task access with only the needed areas
- Write down what they may post and what's off-limits (originality matters on monetized Pages)
- Check the access list yourself after they accept
At offboarding:
- Remove access the day the job ends
- Review the full people list every few months
- Remove anyone you don't recognize
Platform rules and menus change, so confirm the current screens in Meta's Help Center before you hand over anything important.
Frequently asked questions
Who can give someone access to a Facebook Page?
Only people with Facebook access with full control can assign, edit or remove access. If the Assign people option is missing, you probably only have task access, so ask the Page owner.
Can a VA with task access remove me from the Page?
No. Task access can't add or remove people or change roles. Only a person with Facebook access with full control can, which is why that tier should stay with you.
Does my VA need a Facebook account?
Yes. They need their own account, ideally with two-factor authentication on. You invite that account to the Page, and they accept the invitation. You never need their password or share yours.
